Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team has received £385 from North Yorkshire Mountain Bike Orienteers.

The cheque was handed over at Big Bear Bikes, of Pickering, which, with the Forestry Commission, supported the event.

The club organises at least one event a month aim to visit as many of the control points in the event area within a time limit using a pre-marked map. The Moors Marathon attracted 58 competitors and was run over four distances of 100km, 75km, 50km or 25km respectively.

Steve Willis, the event organiser, said: “It was great to see 58 riders setting off in the sunshine.

“Everyone seemed to enjoy their rides.”

In a separate fundraiser, residents of and visitors to Helmsley gave £383.30 during a street collection.

Rescue Team members and one of the team 4×4 ambulances were placed at strategic positions around the Market Place ready to demonstrate and describe the role and function of the team and accept donations.
