Meet our Team

The Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team comprises up to 60 operational members who live and work in and around the York, Scarborough and Ryedale area. Members include doctors, paramedics, nurses and people with hillwalking and climbing experience. As well as being on call 24/7 365 days a year (whatever the weather), they undertake significant amount of on-going training in advanced first aid, mountain and water rescue.

All members are volunteers who receive neither payment nor expenses for participating in training or incidents.

In recent times there have been around 75 callouts a year, each involving 10 to 25 members and taking anywhere between one hour and several days. This can only be achieved through the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of their employers.

Melanie Bonney

Mel runs a community development charity in Scarborough but most of free free time is spent outdoors climbing hills, fells, mountains and crags, or she can often be found up a climbing wall.  Outdoor adventures have been a big part of her life since she was a child and therefore she has always been aware of the work of MRTs - now her son is older and more independent she thought the time was right to give something back.

Michael Hughes

Mike attended medical school in Hull and York. He joined the team in 2011 while living and working in Scarborough as a doctor. He has a passion for pre-hospital care and loves the team working aspect of being part of mountain rescue.

Mike Wilson

Neal Ingram

Paramedic

As both his parents were involved with the team, Neal grew up with the team as a child. He has worked for the ambulance service since 2003 and has been a Paramedic since 2010. He loves to be to be outside in the mountains - be that on his mountain bike, on foot or in a canoe and he particularly enjoys the solitude and peace of camping in the mountains. He also has a life long interest in trains especially steam trains and admits to being a bit of a helicopter geek! Finally joining himself in 2011, Neal is currently the team vehicle officer and one of the teams paramedics.

Ned Roberts

Neil Armstrong

Joined team for second time in 2013. Runs Trailblazer Outdoors in Pickering. Loves the high mountains and via Ferrata particularly. Owns n+1 bikes and enjoys all forms of cycling, currently planning bikepacking trips. Enjoying using the skills the team have taught him and giving something back to the outdoors community.
